The Carbon Economy Series is a non-profit 501c3 whose mission is to identify, educate about, and advocate for sustainable energy and agricultural practices that provide economic benefits to the consumer and the community.
Local products that displace imports have a very high economic multiplier effect. Locally produced renewable energy just became cheaper than fossil energy. Putting energy dollars into the pockets of local producers recirculates those dollars back into the community amplifying the economic impacts. CES is sponsoring a new program for energy farmers whose crop is energy. CES will provide “tractors” for energy farmers, an EV with V2G, vehicle to grid. The battery in an EV can provide many services to the grid that can offset Utility investments helping to lower rates to all. The EV can provide power, capacity, ancillary services and non-wires alternatives for compensation under the Colorado’s Aggregated Virtual Power Plant program, AVPP. We will be providing very low cost EVs to Income Qualified customers of XCEL who join the member owned Colorado Renewable Energy Cooperative VPP, sponsored by the Coop Development Center at Rocky Mountain Farmers Union. We have 1000 new Slates under firm contract for energy farmers that captured the Federal EV credit before it expired, providing $7.5Million for our energy farmers. State EV credits for Low Income drivers stacks on top of the Fed credit.
